Federal Finance Committee and Pre-Budget Consultation Report Recommends Removal of Charitable Status for Faith Based Charities

October 4th, 2025

As I was preparing to sign off for the Sabbath and spend time with family after a very busy week, this came to my desk from a trusted source:

The revocation of charity status WAS included in the 2025 Budget Consultation report.

We immediately checked.

It was true.

It's here, recommendation #429 & #430.

In response, I filmed this video as quickly as possible to ensure you were informed about its significance and implications.

The budget is being written as we speak, which means this is an important window to be a voice asking our leaders NOT to include these two recommendations in the final budget. They could.

If charity status revocation happens (or annulment) it could mean inability to give tax receipts, loss of property tax exemption (which could cause some churches to close), or even the complete dissolution of assets -- meaning buildings would have to be sold and all funds in bank accounts given to other qualified charities as determined by the government.

Translation:

If full revocation is rolled out, most churches and charities will need to let their pastors and staff go, and will no longer have their building.

Some might feel this is alarmist.  My response to that is that there are far too many things that have happened in Canada that we thought would never happen.  Why take the chance?

If you appreciate the work of faith-based charities in Canada, now is the time to be a voice.

ACTION STEPS:

1 - Sign the petition here: https://fs30.formsite.com/secureonlineform/lkouegvihe/index

When you do, an email will immediately be sent to the Prime Minister, Leader of the Opposition (Pierre Poilievre), and other relevant MPs.

2 - Contact your MP personally to ask them to oppose this. Find your MP here: https://www.ourcommons.ca/Members/en.

A personal contact effort is always the most impactful thing you can do.

3 - Please watch this short video, share, hit the "like" emoji, and comment so that this gets into other people's feeds.  Better yet, text it to your friends.

Lastly, there is so much happening that needs advocacy and attention right now.

We need to grow and build so we can continue to serve in these moments. If you appreciate these updates, please donate to help us stay at it (and get stronger).  Click here to give now or see other options below.

Thanks for your time and consideration.

Bless you,

Faytene
